The Royals Shopping Centre’s Sci-Fi Fantasy Fun Day Raises Funds for Local Children’s Charity
The Royals Shopping Centre was transformed into a galaxy far, far away on Saturday, 4th October, as visitors of all ages enjoyed the centre’s third annual Sci-Fi Fantasy Fun Day – a free, family-friendly event celebrating all things science fiction and fantasy.
The day drew hundreds of fans and families from across Essex, who came to meet an array of iconic characters including the Southend Ghostbusters, Daleks, and Transformers. The Royals’ own mascot, Ryan the Lion, also made a special appearance, delighting younger guests with his charm.
This year’s event was not only about fun and fandom but also about giving back to the community. Through fundraising activities, The Royals Shopping Centre helped raise money for Gold Geese, a Southend-based charity supporting children and families affected by childhood cancer.
“We’re absolutely thrilled with the turnout – it was wonderful to see so many families enjoying the day together,” said Michelle de Vigne, Centre Manager at The Royals. “The atmosphere was incredible, and we’re so proud to have raised funds for Gold Geese, a charity that does such vital work in our community.”
The event’s success was made possible through months of planning and teamwork. Special recognition went to Darren Laing, Operations Manager at The Royals, whose dedication helped ensure the day ran smoothly from start to finish.
The Royals team extended heartfelt thanks to all the cosplayers, stallholders, volunteers, and visitors who contributed to making this year’s Sci-Fi Fantasy Fun Day their most successful yet.
Now a much-anticipated highlight in Southend’s event calendar, the annual celebration continues to bring people together for a day of creativity, community, and cosmic fun — while supporting a cause that truly makes a difference.
