10 Suncream facts you might not know

With the sunshine making an appearance, here are 10 SPF facts to keep in your back pocket this summer…

SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor.

SPF 30 blocks around 97% of UVB rays, whilst SPF 50 blocks around 98%.

  1. No sunscreen blocks 100% of UV rays.
  2. You can still get sunburnt on cloudy days.
  3. Suncream should be reapplied every two hours, especially after swimming or sweating.
  4. Your ears, neck, scalp and feet are some of the most commonly missed places when applying SPF.
  5. Sunscreen has an expiry date, so it might be time to check that bottle lurking in the back of the cupboard.
  6. UV rays can damage your skin even when the temperature doesn’t feel particularly warm.
  7. Sand can reflect UV rays back onto your skin, meaning you can still catch the sun whilst sitting under a beach umbrella.
  8. Southend Pier is 1.33 miles long. That’s a lot of opportunity to realise you’ve forgotten your suncream halfway along. 😅
