We’re making it even more colourful and exciting than ever with Chinese performances, a fabulous parade, and lots of FREE fun activities for children! Read on to find out what’s in store.

Date: Saturday, 25th January Time: 11am – 3pm Location: Main Atrium, The Royals Shopping Centre

Ages: 3 – 9 years old

The Year of the Rat

The powers ‘rat’ be have brought us a super animal this year! Far from being an inferior creature, the rat is highly honoured at Chinese New Year, being at the top of the zodiac list. Kick-starting the calendar all over again, the rat represents a new beginning, bringing us another chance to start afresh and refocus our energies. Whoever said we can’t have ‘mice’ things?

11am – 3pm: Chinese Activities for Little Royalty

The rat is thought to be a creative, wise and very sociable animal, so we’ve pulled all the tails this year to make our FREE activities for kids extra fun! Your little squeak-hearts can get their paws at the ready for rat-themed arts and crafts, including lantern-making workshops, mask-making and ribbon twirling. What’s more, we’ll be holding authentic Chinese calligraphy, Chinese Bian embroidery and Chinese woodblock painting workshops – absolute authentic fun for your little ones to dip their paws into!

Plus, don’t miss out on our FREE face painting between 11am – 3pm on the day! Your children will love to show their faces with our beautiful Chinese and rat-themed designs. No more hide and squeak!

We’ll also be serving some delicious Chinese food and snacks for your kids to nibble. They’ll enjoy some sweet and savoury delights of the culture, including a cookie surprise… what will their fortune be?

Chinese Entertainment for Everyone

Chinese New Year wouldn’t be the same without some authentic Chinese performances! Expect involvement from some talented local performers, such as Kudos who will be running martial arts workshops and demonstrations, local Chinese Community School performances, plus real Chinese dancers gracing us with beautiful performances all throughout the day. And rat’s not all folks…

Be sure to keep an eye out for our very special Chinese lion dance and ceremonies throughout the day! Marked as a tradition, our beautiful Chinese lion will be making rounds around the stores to gather red envelopes. Ryan and Rosy the lions will be sure to be making a new friend on the day!

2pm: Come and Join our Lion Ritual & Parade

Get your red, gold and white glad-rags at the ready! From 2pm, you can get on the rat beat with our fabulous Lion ritual and parade. Vibrant and colourful, we’ll be entertaining everyone with our fantastic Chinese drumming, a whole lot of moving and a delightful burst of colour! All creatures big and small, adults and kids alike will have lots of fun with this one.

Make sure you rat-race to The Royals for this very special event to join in on all the FREE Chinese New Year fun! It’s a fantastic event to have fun with the whole family, support your local community, and just enjoy something a bit different.
